The University of Oregon Global Justice Program, funded by the Savage Endowment for International Relations and Peace, is accepting proposals from the faculty to bring national or international experts to the UO campus during the 2024-25 academic year. The projects will enhance the educational experiences for students in the fields of humanities and social sciences, focusing primarily on international relations, peace and the United Nations.
For the next funding cycle, faculty members can apply for funding for the regular program or a special conference initiative on active responses to global crises. Special conference proposals should be aimed at bringing together scholars and practitioners to educate the UO community about the issues and to contribute actionable ideas for peace, social justice and international collaboration. These proposals should involve a significant component of student participation.
Application materials are available on the Global Justice Program website and faculty collaborations are encouraged. Application deadline is Jan. 31.
Past projects include international conferences hosted by the UO, lectures and special workshops. Six programs were funded for the 2023-24 cycle. Upcoming Global Justice Program funded events include:
Regular program:
- ‘Uncovering War: Photography, Cartography and Truth in Ukraine’ (Jan. 24) and an associated student winter seminar class, Architecture 407/507, LandTalk: The architecture and urbanism of a planet in stress.
Special conference on active response to global crises:
- ‘Extra! Extra! Refugee Journalists become the Story – Migrating to Stay Alive’ (April 4-7).
- ‘Understanding Conflict to Enact Change: Climate Clashes, Climate Governance, Climate Justice’ (May 15-17).
The Global Justice Program is housed within the Global Studies Institute, a unit of the Division of Global Engagement.
