Historian’s talk asks how race shaped the modern world

As we approach the 250th anniversary of this nation’s founding, you are invited to a powerful and thought-provoking conversation that asks: Whose stories, labor and intellect shaped the world we live in today?

The 2025-26 African American Workshop and Lecture Series kicks off Oct. 10 with “The History of Absence: Race and the Making of the Modern World” delivered by Jonathan Holloway — renowned historian of post-emancipation America and current president and CEO of the Henry R. Luce Foundation. Holloway also served as the 21st president of Rutgers University.

Attendees are asked to RSVP for the lunch and lecture taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Papé Reception Hall of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. The event will also be livestreamed starting at 11:30 a.m.
