The Donald Trump phenomenon of the 2016 presidential campaign has created an unprecedented atmosphere leading up to the Republican National Convention, drawing the attention of political science scholars like the UO’s Joe Lowndes.
Republican voters have rebelled against party elites, expressing a rage at what they experience as political, economic and racial marginalization. The historic campaign compelled Lowndes to write a book about Trump and the GOP.
Lowndes, who previously wrote a book about the rise of the modern Republican Party, is at the Cleveland convention to do research for a new book that will look at what led up to this “historic crisis for the GOP.”
