Two opportunities are available on campus to donate blood

University of Oregon employees can aid local hospitals by donating blood for life-saving treatments, surgeries and traumas.

Bloodworks Northwest makes this easy by bringing the donation process to the Eugene campus.

Appointments can be made on the UO page of the Bloodworks website for these dates:

  • Friday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Matthew Knight Arena.
  • Monday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Gilbert Plaza in Lillis Hall.

The appointment takes about an hour, but the actual blood donation time is about 10 minutes.

The UO volleyball team has taken a local boy who receives blood transfusions under its wing. This television news story with his mother demonstrates the importance of donations in the community.

For those who like a little competition, Abbott and the Big Ten Conference have launched the largest blood donation competition to battle the largest blood shortage in a generation.  The winning Big Ten university with the most recorded blood donors will receive a $1 million contribution to advance student and community health. More information can be found at www.bigten.org/abbott.

Donations must be made between Sept. 26 and Dec. 6, 2024, at any Bloodworks Northwest location.

As a thank-you, all donors will receive a free one-month B1G+ subscription and a chance to win a trip to the 2024 Big Ten Football Championship Game.
