The University of Oregon will celebrate the research, creativity and ingenuity of undergraduates at the seventh annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Thursday, May 18, in the Erb Memorial Union. The campus community is invited to a series of panels and presentations that span the day.

The undergraduate symposium debuted in 2011 with 69 presenters. In its seventh year it has more than quadrupled participation with 292 presenters and 177 faculty mentors spanning 60 majors and eight colleges.

Concurrent oral presentation panels run from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., creative works sessions from 3:30 to 5 p.m., and the poster session and academic residential communities/freshman interest group sessions from 5:15 to 7 p.m. 

A catered reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the EMU ballroom lobby with welcome remarks by the organizers and a brief keynote address by Benjamín Aleman, assistant professor of physics.

Josh Snodgrass and Kevin Hatfield, the co-chairs Undergraduate Research Symposium, encourage faculty, staff and students to attend the reception as a way to mingle and interact directly with student presenters.

The symposium concludes at 7 p.m. with the announcement of the award winners, with six different awards offered, and the presenter group portrait.
