The 5th Annual Graduate Student Research Forum is a one-day conference held annually at the University of Oregon to showcase research and creative expressions by graduate students in all of the UO’s graduate colleges and schools. The 2014 Grad Forum will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, in the EMU.
The theme of this year’s forum, “Engagement: Community, Creativity, Connections,” reflects the importance of sharing research with new audiences. The event will include more than 170 graduate students representing more than 50 disciplines from across campus—the largest in the five years it has been held.
There will be more than 20 sessions throughout the day, including panel presentations, literary readings, dance, music and theatrical performances. Many of the sessions connect graduate student research from diverse fields around common themes.
“The Graduate Student Research Forum provides a vital opportunity to showcase graduate student research and creative expression on a grand scale,” said Kimberly Andrews Espy, vice president for research and innovation and dean of the graduate school. “It’s a true interdisciplinary intellectual exchange that will open doors for the researchers of tomorrow.”
In addition to the interdisciplinary sessions, over 100 students will participate in this year's new poster competition, which for the first time will offer $1,000 awards to winners in each of six academic categories. The awards may be used for a professional development opportunity of the winner’s choosing (such as attending a conference, purchasing research supplies, traveling to a job/internship interview).

The awards have been made possible by the generous support of this year’s Grad Forum partners. Representatives from the forum’s partner companies, professionals from the community, faculty, staff and administration will serve as judges to identify the top posters for each of the academic categories.
Audience members are invited to vote in the People’s Choice Award competition, given to the poster presenter that receives the most audience votes.
