Fans of Hispanic cinema and literature will get the chance to participate in workshops and discussions, watch Hispanic films, and meet the directors during the Cine-Lit 9 conference in Portland.

The conference is scheduled for March 9 and 10 at Portland State University and March 11 at the University of Oregon’s White Stag Block in Portland. The theme of this year’s Cine-Lit is women, featuring women filmmakers and representations of women and genders.

During the conference, professors and students will share research about cinema and literature, take part in workshops and discussions with writers and filmmakers, and listen to keynote speakers. The conference is open to the public.

This year, the symposium will include two sessions focused on Eugene undergraduate research into Hispanic cinema and culture. Peer-reviewed articles based on recent conference papers will be published in a special issue of the new UO-based academic journal Peripherica. 

Every evening of the conference, Cine-Lit will show the latest Hispanic films from the Portland International Film Festival that connect with the theme of women. Several Hispanic directors featured in the festival are planning to attend, including Lucrecia Martel of Argentina, Natalia Cabral of The Dominican Republic and Almudena Carracedo of Spain.

Cine-Lit began in 1990 and is held every three to four years through a partnership between the UO, PSU, Oregon State University and the Portland International Film Festival.
