Arafaat Valiani is an academic expert in inclusive and equitable biomedicine and the history of life sciences. A medical ethnographer and an historian of science and medicine, he is principal investigator/founder of The Precision Health Equity Project which focuses on bioethical questions about human genomics, difference and equity as it pertains to BIPOC peoples in the Americas, and South Asians globally. Valiani is the 2023 Killam Laureate and was Killam Visiting Scholar in the Department of Community Health Sciences in Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He has been a fellow or grant recipient from the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Kluge Center at the Library of Congress, the Wenner Gren Foundation, American Institute of Indian Studies and the Ford Foundation.
