Edward Rubin is an academic expert in the environment, pollution, regulation, EPA, wildfires and smoke, energy, agriculture, statistics, machine learning and data science. Ed researches how human behavior—both individual and public policy—affects social equity and the health of the natural world. Mainly an empiricist, Ed's research tackles these issues with a toolbox that draws from econometrics, statistics, and data science—often using new data and empirical approaches to shed light on difficult-to-observe behaviors. Examples of this work include projects that estimate unequal infant health impacts of glyphosate exposure, document curiously missing data in air-quality monitors, illustrate unequal opportunities in wildfire-smoke avoidance, and show strategic siting of coal-fueled power plants. Ed has published in general interest economic journals, field journals, and general science journals.
