From combos to ensembles to a Duke Ellington birthday bash, the University of Oregon will have it all during Jazz Appreciation Month in April.

Bridget Burns, chief of staff for the Oregon University System, has been named a fellow of the American Council on Education for the 2013-14 academic year.

The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is intended to strengthen institutions and leadership in U.S. higher education by identifying and preparing promising senior faculty and administrators for positions in college and university administration.

A week ago, University of Oregon undergrads Samantha Stendal and Aaron Blanton were largely anonymous cinema studies majors toiling their way through final exams. This week – six days after they posted an anti-rape video on YouTube – their world had gone viral.

Veteran broadcaster Charles Jaco – who has covered wars, natural disasters and politics for NBC, CNN, CBS and Fox – will visit the University of Oregon-Portland on April 25 to present the School of Journalism and Communication's annual Johnston Lecture.

Jaco is a Peabody-award winning television reporter, author and former talk show host. He will present the “Voice, Sound and Story: The Role of the Radio Storyteller,” at 5:30 p.m. in Events Room 142/144 at the UO-Portland's White Stag Block, 70 N.W. Couch St.

The work of a Singaporean artist moves to center stage during the University of Oregon’s fourth annual Cinema Pacific film festival.

In conjunction with the festival, which runs April 17-21, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and UO Portland’s White Box will feature media installations by Ming Wong. 

Saxophonist Steven Mauk will present a concert in the first spring term event at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. A concert by marimba artist Pius Cheung and the annual Duke Ellington birthday jazz bash are also upcoming.

The deadline is March 29 for nominations from UO faculty for research titles that the UO Libraries should add through an awards program.

Each year, the UO Libraries adds several new research titles to its collections through the Stanley B. Greenfield Faculty Awards Program. Greenfield was a longtime professor of English at the UO and a longtime personal advocate for the library.

Labor and management representatives of the Oregon Public Employees' Benefit Board will hold a meeting on healthcare costs and benefits at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the EMU Walnut Room.
