UO historian cited as part of Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality

Ellen Herman had a busy day when the Supreme Court ruled about marriage equality because she and colleagues had a hand to play in it.

As she explained to The Oregonian in a story following the landmark decision, Herman and 19 fellow historians filed a brief that was cited in the ruling that same-sex couples have the right to marry. The historians have also filed briefs in other cases on the topic of historical evolution of marriage and gender roles.

UO grad Liz Zarro plans a career helping people through product design

UO graduate Liz Zarro went from dancing to design at the UO, and now hopes to use what she’s learned to make people’s lives better.

Zarro and the products she designed as a student are the subject of a story in The Oregonian newspaper, part of a series on the state’s graduates. Zarro, a Clark Honors College student, told the paper she wants to design things that “are more than just products.”

Recipients of UO’s most generous merit grant featured in Oregonian

The six new University of Oregon Stamps Scholars were featured Tuesday on OregonLive, the online version of The Oregonian. The high school seniors are among the top students in the state and will enroll this fall at the UO.

The Stamps Scholarship is the most prestigious and generous merit award from the University of Oregon. It provides tuition, room and board, and access to an enrichment fund that helps students pursue study abroad, internships and other experiences, and is renewable for four years.
