2020 Campus Sustainability Award winners announced

The Office of Sustainability recently honored individuals and projects from across the UO campus for their environmental efforts with the Campus Sustainability Awards.

This year’s awards and recipients are:

  • Student Leadership: Brendan Adamczyk for many contributions to sustainability and environmental justice during his undergraduate years at UO. This award is sponsored by the Student Sustainability Center.
  • Town and Gown: Kirby Brown and Jennifer O’Neal for their work on the Western Humanities Alliance Symposium on “Climate Change, Sovereignty, and Place” and their partnerships with Oregon’s federally recognized tribes. This award is sponsored by Government and Community Relations.
  • Excellence in Teaching: Sarah Wald, English and environmental studies, and Thomas Hahn, architecture. This award is sponsored by the Office of the Provost’s Teaching Engagement Program.
  • Research: Michael Russo for cutting-edge research bringing sustainability to business. This award is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation.
  • Innovation: Nico Larco and Rebecca Lewis for Urbanism Next and their transportation, e-commerce and equity research. This award is also sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation.
  • Student Support and Programming: Zaida Hatfield, Taylor McHolm, Zara Pastos and Mat Wilson for their free professional clothing drive for students. This new award is sponsored by the Division of Student Life.
  • Sustainable Campus: Tom Driscoll, Grace Godfrey and Lynn Alvarez for multiple efforts to increase sustainability in campus catering and dining services. This new award is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration.
  • Campus Design: The Justice Bean Hall Renovation, accepted by Michael Griffel of University Housing on behalf of the project. This award is sponsored jointly by Campus Planning and Design and Construction.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the annual awards ceremony was canceled this year. The winners will each receive a physical award recognizing their efforts. Video interviews with the winners discussing their work are also available.
