University leaders are reminding faculty, staff and graduate employees that the Around the O Workplace webpage and weekly email serve as UO’s official source for the campuswide employment news and information.
“Our goal is to provide employees with the information they need to be successful at their jobs and help meet the UO’s mission of teaching, research and service,” said Kyle Henley, vice president for university communications. “Around the O Workplace provides a single point of contact and searchable reference for employees to come back to.”
Around the O Workplace covers information about professional development, campus safety, leadership announcements, policy developments, academic hiring, events, recreation and other items of interest to employees. Articles are posted to the website throughout the week before being compiled into the email digest each Tuesday.
The UO launched a weekly email in May 2016 designed to notify UO employees about workplace news and information. During the 2016–17 academic year, the Around the O Workplace email delivered more than 225 articles and announcements to employee’s inboxes from 50 different areas of the university, but with far fewer emails than in the past.
The workplace email is delivered every Tuesday to 7,000 employees and rounds up all the employee-centric news of the last week from the Around the O website. The full Around the O website also provides information about academics and research, student and campus news, UO experts, videos, photos, social media, media mentions and more.
In addition to the Tuesday Workplace email, employees also receive another Around the O email distributed on Wednesdays, which focuses on the academic and research impact of the faculty and students. That email is sent to all employees and students, along with a number of alumni, donors and community members. UO Portland and the Division of Student Life also send emails to specific audiences.
University community members who want to share information for the Workplace section or any other section of Around the O are encouraged to submit stories and ideas using this link online.
