Astronomer launches 2026–27 African American Workshop and Lecture Series

Join Eric M. Wilcots, interim chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, for the 2026-27 African American Workshop and Lecture Series. Wilcots will explore the forces shaping galaxies like the Milky Way, including how galaxies form, evolve and interact with their environments, while reflecting on modern science’s international, collaborative nature and the importance of broadening participation in the field.

An astronomer who joined the UW-Madison faculty in 1996, Wilcots previously served as dean of the university’s College of Letters and Science. He holds degrees from Princeton University and the University of Washington and is a champion of public science programs, including the Wisconsin Science Festival and Universe in the Park.

The lecture takes place Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Erb Memorial Union Redwood Auditorium at the University of Oregon. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. RSVP to attend.

The series is sponsored by the Office of the President and the Division of Equity and Inclusion.
