Bike events to roll through the Eugene campus in May

May is bike month in Lane County, so mark your calendars for a month of free, fun, all-ages and abilities bike events and rides.

Of special interest to University of Oregon Eugene campus employees are UO Bike to Campus days May 13, 20 and 27. Stop by 13th Avenue and University Street for free coffee, snacks and swag from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then join a bike parade around the core of campus at noon. The UO Bike Program and Transportation Services will provide minor repairs and tune ups, as well as e-bike test rides.

UO is a Gold-Level Bicycle Friendly University and other events happening at the UO include:

  • Filmed by Bike Film Festival, May 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Straub Hall.
  • Bikes and Friends Commuter Club, May 27, 5:30 p.m. at the Bike Program office 008 Erb Memorial Union. Open to anyone interested in commuting to UO using active transportation.
  • Bird Watching by Bicycle, May 28, 6 p.m. Meet at the Bike Program office. Join UO Transportation Services and Greater Eugene Area Riders for a fun evening along the bike path to the Delta Ponds.

Transportation Services and the Bike Program run an e-bike lending library. Participants can try out an e-bike for free for two weeks. The Bike Program also offers tune-ups, repairs, tools and gear to get you riding, as well as classes and rental equipment.

Learn about secure bike parking at UO or other options for getting to and around campus on the Transportation Services website.

PeaceHealth Rides Bike Share, the blue bikes around town, is free for the month of May. Throughout the rest of the year, UO employees and students get discounted rates at only $8 per month.

Log your cycling trips in the Get There transportation platform to win prizes in the Bike Month Challenge. Join the UO network on Get There to organize bikepools, carpools and one-time trips with other UO employees.

The Bike Month Passport continues in 2025, with local artist Erick Wonderly Varela creating new “birds on bikes” images for the passport, stickers and prizes. To participate, pick up a passport and gather stickers by attending events in May.
