The University of Oregon will celebrate the newly renovated Portland campus with a grand opening event featuring UO President Karl Scholz, UO Portland Vice President Jane Gordon, special guests and elected officials.
The UO community is invited to attend the festivities, which take place on Wednesday, May 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the UO Portland campus at 2800 NE Liberty Street. Individuals can learn more and RSVP at pdx.uoregon.edu/grand-opening.
“The UO Portland campus represents an important step forward in strengthening our ability to serve students, our state and the nation,” Scholz said. “We’re proud to build on the UO’s long-standing legacy and vibrant history in Portland and the surrounding region.”
As part of the grand opening celebration, guests can meet the Duck, explore the upgraded UO Portland campus on a self-guided tour and learn more about its academic programs, faculty and students, plus enjoy fun photo opportunities, delicious food and refreshing drinks along the way.
The 19-acre campus, located in the Concordia neighborhood of Northeast Portland, was purchased in June 2022 as part of a generous gift from Connie and Steve Ballmer to establish The Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health. Additionally, UO Portland houses a new library and seven research centers, including the Agora Journalism Center and the Labor Education and Research Center.
UO Portland has a variety of undergraduate and graduate academic programs at six schools, as well as student housing and onsite dining and recreation opportunities. More than 20 buildings and nearly 400,000 square feet are spread throughout a walkable four blocks, with plenty of pathways connecting each part of campus. The lush campus also features a canopy of trees and an outdoor amphitheater on the green.
