Classes don’t start until the end of the month so the descent into fall doesn’t feel as rushed on the University of Oregon campuses. Arts and culture events are starting to swell the calendar. National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, celebrates Hispanic and Latino history and culture. Locally, Herencia Hispana will take place Sept. 12 in downtown Springfield, alongside the block party, of which UO is a sponsor.
Cinema
Pop into air-conditioned Lawrence Hall Sept. 4 for the final day of the summer Nordic Film Series. Retired landscape architecture instructor Whitey Lueck has chosen the Danish TV series Borgen.
Join the School of Architecture and Environment and Restore Oregon at UO Portland Sept. 21 for a film screening and conversation on Oregon Modernism Through the Lens of Open Space.
Exhibitions
Opening Sept. 12 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is Jeffrey Gibson: They Teach Love. The exhibition’s centerpiece is a work titled “To Name An Other” comprised of 51 screen printed elk hide drums and 50 wearable garments.
Leading the Camino: Latinx Art by Juan de Dios Mora and Consuelo Jimenez Underwood will be on view Sept. 19 featuring prints and textiles by that question borders and embrace living in the borderlands.
The Museum of Natural and Culture History’s exhibit America at 250 — Before, Between, Beyond invites you to reflect on where we have been, who we are and what America might yet become.

University Theatre announced its 2026-27 season that features a hilarious farce, a Henrik Ibsen classic, a bawdy cabaret and a sobering look at self-defense. The curtain goes up Nov. 6.
