The city of Eugene is starting design work on an improvement project on a section of the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path System that runs through university property.
The federally funded repair and realignment project will rebuild almost 3,000 linear feet of the shared-use South Bank Path along the Willamette River between East 8th Avenue and the Frohnmayer Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge. The current asphalt pavement will be replaced with a 12-foot-wide concrete path with lighting, trail amenities and enhanced wayfinding.
The project will realign a portion of the path, located west of the millrace outfall, to be further away from the river and outside the 100-foot setback. The Eugene city surveyor’s office will install markers this week for the potential new alignment, pending city and university review.
Construction is expected to occur in 2020. For more information about the project, contact Rachel Love with Eugene Public Works at 541-682-5477.
