Commuters between Eugene and Portland should plan for I-5 closure

University of Oregon employees driving between the Eugene and Portland campuses will want to plan around the closure of southbound Interstate 5 starting Sept. 11, for up to five weeks.

The construction area is near the Rose Quarter on the east side of downtown Portland by the Albina neighborhood, approximately five miles south of UO Portland.

According to planners, trips may take two to three times longer than usual depending on the time of day, and congestion could back up across the Columbia River into Washington and onto local streets around the Portland area.

Transportation options are listed on the project website.
