Downtime set for Shibboleth logins and other services

Several technology services at the University of Oregon will experience downtime or service limitations this week while Information Services takes four more steps toward its data center infrastructure upgrade.

The first round of work — on Wednesday, June 21, from 5 to 6:30 a.m. — will involve Shibboleth single sign-on, the common UO login used to access services such as Canvas, Zoom and MyTrack. Most logins during that window should succeed. However, people may occasionally get error messages when trying to log in. The work shouldn't impact any sessions that start before 5 a.m.

Then on Thursday, June 22, UO staff will perform maintenance on two email-related systems.

Mailman, the UO's primary email list service, will experience some rare downtime from 5 to 7 a.m. during work rescheduled from earlier in June. Email lists at the domain lists.uoregon.edu will be unavailable during the maintenance window. Messages sent to those lists are expected to fail. Senders should get bounce notifications.

From 6 to 8 a.m. the same day, separate maintenance will affect a component of the university's email system. That work isn't expected to cause noticeable impacts. However, there's a possibility mail flow could be interrupted throughout that window.

Finally, several services will be unavailable for up to six hours overnight, from 10 p.m. on Friday, June 23, to 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 24. Those services include the Duck ID system and Duck ID Account Management website and the university's dining point-of-sale system. Also, people won't be able to log in to the Degree Guide website.

Details about upcoming service outages will be posted on the IT Service Status website. That's also where updates will be posted if any of the work runs long or causes unexpected problems.
