Before the University of Oregon’s Department of Parking and Transportation gives 'em the boot, they’ll give 'em a warning.
Drivers who rack up repeated unpaid parking tickets on the UO campus may have their cars immobilized with a metal "boot" locking one wheel — a common practice in parking enforcement around the country. UO parking service representatives will now issue a warning when a vehicle is boot-eligible.
A bright yellow sticker on the driver’s window will alert the car’s owner that multiple unpaid citations have been accrued and the next step is immobilization, a hassle for the driver much greater than paying a simple fine.
If the citations remain unpaid, the vehicle can be booted the next time it is found parked on campus.
To free a car from the boot, drivers must pay all outstanding UO parking citations, which can be done over the phone, in person at 1401 Walnut Street or online at parking.uoregon.edu. Boot removal is only done during the parking department’s regular business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
Of course, the best way to avoid a boot or a warning citation, is to follow university parking rules, and to pay citations promptly. Only those with multiple unpaid tickets will find themselves booted.
