Dec. 11 – Leif Karlstrom, assistant professor of earth sciences, has received the 2018 Hisashi Kuno Award from American Geophysical Union. The early career award recognizes outstanding contributions to the fields of volcanology, geochemistry and petrology.
Dec. 10 – Jo Weaver, assistant professor of international studies, is part of a panel discussion on Dec. 18 in Washington D.C. as part of the American Academy for the Advancement of the Sciences' Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion program. The lecture is, "The Tapestry of Health: Genetic Diversity, Cultural Identity and Ancestry in Human Health."
Nov. 26 – Marie Vitulli, professor emerita, has been selected as a 2019 Association for Women in Mathematics fellow for her work in increasing the success and visibility of in the field. She will be recognized at a ceremony on Jan. 16 in Baltimore.
Nov. 9 – Three University of Oregon faculty members in the College of Educations education studies earned the 2018 Francis P. Hunkins Article of the Year Award from the American Association of Teaching and Curriculum. Jerry Rosiek, Alison Schmitke and Julie Heffeman wrote “Queering Teacher Education Curriculum: A Case Study of Lessons Learned in the Transformation of a Teacher Education Program.”
Oct. 18 – Zena Ariola, professor of computer and information science, was awarded the ACM SIGPLAN 2018 Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes the value and degree of services to the Programing Languages Community. Ariola founded the Oregon Programming Languages Summer School.
Oct. 8 – Gordon Lafer, a professor in the Labor Education and Research Center was awarded the Michael Harrington Book Award for “The One-Percent Solution: How Corporations are Remaking America One State at a Time.” The award is given by Caucus for a New Political Science and recognizes books that demonstrate how scholarship can be used in the struggle for a better world.
