The Division of Undergraduate Studies is again partnering with University Housing, the Robert D. Clark Honors College, UO Libraries, the Division of Equity and Inclusion, and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation to support the Undergraduate Research Symposium, a campuswide opportunity for students to present their original contributions in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.
This is the sixth year for the symposium, which has grown each year. The 2016 event included more than 200 presenters representing 57 majors and seven colleges.
Josh Snodgrass, associate vice provost for undergraduate studies, sent a message to faculty requesting they encourage undergraduates to submit their work and attend the symposium to celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of UO students.
Here are the highlights:
- The 2017 symposium is Thursday, May 18, and will conclude with a reception and awards ceremony from 5-7 p.m. and a co-sponsored talk, with the Center for Global Health, at 7 p.m. by professor Robert Fullilove of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He will discuss “Mass Incarceration and its Impact on Community Health.”
- Abstracts for student presentations at the 2017 event are due by 11:59 p.m. March 10 via the Undergraduate Research Symposium website. The submission link will go live Jan. 4. Questions about submissions should be directed to ugresearch@uoregon.edu.
- An information session for students is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. in the Global Scholars Hall Learning Commons.
- Faculty are invited to serve on the Faculty Review Panel to assess abstracts or act as moderators at the symposium.
Additional information is available on the undergraduate research symposium website, including proposal submission guidelines, FAQs, sample abstracts, interviews with symposium presenters, video of panels, past programs and an archive of posters and slideshow presentations.
