Fire hydrant testing could stir up campus water in coming days

University fire marshal staff will test about 50 campus hydrants weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Sept. 25-Oct. 7. The UO is required under the Oregon Fire Code to test fire hydrants for proper function and evaluate water flow available for firefighting.

Water pressure changes from hydrant testing can cause temporary impacts to tap water. If present, rust particles may change the water's color or taste and may stain laundry.

UO building users who encounter water issues should contact their building's Campus Planning and Facilities Management representative, or the office’s work control center at 541-346-2319 or email workcontrolcenter@uoregon.edu to report the problem. University Housing residents such as those in east campus houses or Graduate Village, should contact University Housing facilities at houfaccs@uoregon.edu.

The UO fire marshal can answer questions about hydrant testing or any fire prevention topics at 541-346-3192.
