Forbes lists UO among top schools for late applicants

The University of Oregon is included in a list prepared by Forbes magazine of 107 top schools where good students have great chances of being accepted late in the enrollment cycle.

The list, which appeared online Dec. 30, is aimed at students worried that they might not be accepted at the elite schools they applied to early in the cycle. The 107 schools cited by the magazine accept at least two-thirds of all applicants but are listed in the Princeton Review’s 2015 edition of “The 379 Best Colleges in America.”

The UO accepts three of four applicants, the story notes, and could be a good choice among applicants seeking a school with top-notch athletics along with a top academic program.

Universities typically don’t want to be considered the fallback choice for good students, but the article notes that many schools with strong acceptance rates not only provide a high-quality education but also end up being a perfect fit.

“Many of these excellent ‘safety schools’ become the dream colleges for students who enroll,” the article says. “And for their parents the high acceptance rate typically means that the colleges are more willing to offer tuition discounts (scholarships and grants) for students with desirable attributes.”
