Gift supports UO law school’s research and writing program

The University of Oregon School of Law's Legal Research and Writing program has received a gift of $850,000 to establish the Morris J. Galen Fund. The gift will support opportunities for student writing.

One of the first initiatives developed from the fund is an annual appointment: the Galen Scholar in Legal Writing.

The scholar will be an Oregon Law faculty member committed to excellence in student writing. The person will hold a one-year appointment, with a different theme designated for each year.

Another initiative is the expansion of upper-level writing courses. For the 2013-14 academic year, the law school has added three new sections of “Writing in Law Practice.”
