Hot stuff: UO's Chris Minson discusses heat and training

UO human physiologist Chris Minson likes to make his research subjects sweat … a lot. Minson’s research on heat training is featured in a story in Outside Magazine.

His work looks at heat acclimation responses in athletes. Minson found that heat training can have some surprising benefits when done right.

He says it not only helps increase the rate of perspiration, but it can also lead to better cardiovascular fitness. One method he uses with his athletes is to do the harder workouts in the cold or early morning and save the less intense workouts for the hotter conditions.
