After an unusually quiet 15 months on the University of Oregon campus, a number of June activities and events will bring an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Residence hall move-out will run through Friday, June 11. While there will be no street closures or traffic changes for move-out, portions of Agate Street on each side of East 13th Avenue will be closed midday on Saturday, June 12, to accommodate in-person commencement activities for 2021 graduates. For graduates who opted in, the Grad Parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena and head west toward the Memorial Quad. Agate will reopen at the conclusion of the Grad Parade.
Those working on campus may have seen fencing and tents already being installed around Hayward Field, which will host marquee events this month beginning with the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 9-12. There is a jet flyover planned for Saturday, June 12, that will coincide with the national anthem at the start of the premier events beginning about 3 p.m. There are no street closures planned for these championships, however access to some parking lots may be limited.
Hayward Field also will host the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials from June 18-27. Traffic plans and temporary parking to accommodate fans is in flux as event organizers adjust to changing COVID-19 protocols. Expect street closures along Agate and East 18th Avenue near Hayward for the duration of the competition. Please visit Transportation Service’s website for the most up-to-date information on street and parking lot closures.
