Universities across New York City are pursuing a new wave of science and technology buildings, a trend that gave UO President Michael H. Schill a chance to talk about the new Knight Center for Accelerating Scientific Impact with the New York Times.

Schill, who helped found a new real estate policy center a decade ago while he was at New York University, said he sees a newfound interest in applied science and entrepreneurship among the nation’s top universities.

“I think what you’re seeing is a culture change,” Schill said. “A lot of universities for which previously the words ‘applied sciences’ and ‘entrepreneurship’ were dirty words now are jostling with each other to get a piece of the game.”
