The Oregon women’s lacrosse team had 11 players named to the 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team on Friday, May 23, as announced by MPSF executive director Al Beaird. This year marks the third-straight year the Ducks have had 10-plus players named to the all-academic team.

This is the third time UO has had 11 players recognized for their hard work in the classroom, and the fifth time the Ducks have had double-digit honorees under the direction of head coach Jen Beck. The 11 players honored is just one shy of the mark set in 2008 when UO had a dozen players named to the all-academic team.

Oregon had five players earn their third-consecutive all-academic team honors and was led by senior Caroline Federighi who not only led the Ducks, but also the entire conference with an extraordinary 4.09 grade-point average. She is joined by seniors Shannon Propst(3.96), Erika McCool (3.89), Nikki Puszcz (3.62) andSami Kiser (3.32).

Juniors Devon Frazer (3.82), Raleigh Cavey (3.55) andCasey Brogan (3.53) all earned their second-straight all-academic accolades.

Sophomores Alison Scharkey (3.84), Katie Marlatt (3.71) and Holly Johnson (3.59) all earned their first all-academic honors in their first year of eligibility for the award.

The Ducks had the third-most student-athletes honored with 11, trailing Cal who had 12 while Stanford led the conference with 15. Denver (10) was the only other team with double-digit honorees.

To be eligible for the MPSF All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, must be at least a sophomore academically, must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received and must have competed in 50 percent or more of the institution’s competition in his or her respective sport.
