Newman, of UO's Early Childhood CARES, honored for service work

Judy Newman, co-director of the Early Childhood CARES program in the UO's College of Education, was recognized for her community service work at Tuesday night's United Way Community Celebration.

Newman was presented the local United Way organization's second annual Community Voice Award for her work as an advocate for the annual charitable fund drive.

Congratulate Judy Newman.

“I think I was recognized for something that is very much my core and heart and soul,” she said in a Register-Guard story about the celebration.

Newman is a co-director and founder of Early Childhood Cares, which provides early intervention and early childhood special education to infants, toddlers and preschool age children in Lane County. She also serves on a state policy coordinating council regarding children with special needs and plans for Oregon's preschool-through-college education initiative.

Tuesday's United Way celebration wrapped up the organization's 2013 fundraising campaign, which has tallied more than $3 million with about 85 percent of donations collected. The UO was one of four organizations that each raised contributions of more than $100,000.
