University of Oregon faculty and staff are being asked to submit nominations now for students to be recognized next month at the UO Career Center's Student Employee of the Year reception.
The Career Center event – from noon to 1:30 p.m. on May 27 in Gerlinger Lounge – celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of all student employees who are nominated. The event has taken place in one form or another for more than 15 years, and is the Career Center's version of an event originally created by the National Association of Student Employment Administrators.
"As a reviewer of the nominations for the past 12 years, it’s been just amazing to read what their supervisors have to say about these incredible students – probably my favorite event the Career Center hosts every year," said Pat Ferris, the center's employment services coordinator.
Ferris said his office receives an average of 75 nominations per year, but he suspects many supervisors of student workers don't hear about the event ahead of time so miss the opportunity to acknowledge their students' contributions.
To nominate a student employee, register online for the event and then email Ferris with the student's name and a paragraph describing her or his accomplishments. The nomination emails will be read during the recognition event.
