SEIU declares impasse and UO requests mediation with GTFF

The University of Oregon is currently engaged in collective bargaining with the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation and, alongside Oregon’s six other public universities, with the Service Employees International Union, Local 503. Here is the latest on both negotiations.

SEIU

Oregon’s seven public universities have been negotiating with SEIU since February for their next collective bargaining agreement. The parties have not yet reached an agreement, and SEIU declared impasse Aug. 7. SEIU and UO submitted final offers Aug. 14, triggering the start of a thirty-day cooling-off period.

GTFF

The UO and the GTFF began negotiations for their next collective bargaining agreement in March. The 150-day direct bargaining period has passed without an agreement, and the UO has requested mediation services from the state Employment Relations Board. Mediation is a normal phase of the bargaining process, and it is common for parties to reach agreement with the help of a mediator. Mediation is likely to begin in mid-September.
