Service Employees International Union has notified Oregon's public universities that it intends to strike Sept. 28.
The seven universities and SEIU will continue bargaining sessions with a state mediator during the strike notice period, so it is possible they will reach agreement before a strike begins.
If SEIU does go on strike, the University of Oregon will activate continuity plans to maintain essential services.
