The president’s Sexual Assault Review Panel will convene for the second time Aug. 27, and review panel Chair Mary Diets, retired Oregon Court of Appeals chief judge, invited the campus community to attend and provide feedback during a recent interview with KMTR.
This will mark the second meeting of the eight-member panel since it was commissioned in July and the first time the panel will receive direct input from the community. KMTR’s Kelsey Dudley also spent the afternoon speaking with students on campus to gauge sentiment about the process.
When asked about the timing of the panel’s meeting prior to the start of the new academic year, Diets said the panel wanted to get the process under way as soon as possible.
“This is a beginning point,” Diets said during the interview. She said there will be many more opportunities for the campus community’s voice to be heard throughout the review process and one benefit to the timing is faculty and staff will have an opportunity to provide input prior to returning to their academic responsibilities in the fall.
The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the Giustina Ballroom at the Ford Alumni Center. Those who wish to comment should arrive 15 minutes early to sign up. Written comments also are being accepted via submissions through the panel’s website.
