Students can take up the challenge posed by this year’s Common Reading author at a special event aimed at asking and discussing the questions raised in the book “Between the World and Me.”

A prelude to the Feb. 3 visit by the book’s author, Ta-Nehisi Coates, the event will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the Great Room of the Global Scholars Hall. “Live the Question” will be a chance to take up Coates’ call to explore the world through a life of “constant questioning.”

Students are invited to move beyond the book’s text and apply its call to action in their own communities. But the event also is open to those who have not yet read the book.

“Live the Question” will be live-tweeted at #LiveTheQuestionUO.

Coates’ talk will be the headline event in a year-long conversation centered on his acclaimed book, which is this year’s Common Reading Program selection. He will be at Matthew Knight Arena to deliver the address as this year’s Ruhl Lecturer.

Demand for the event is high, and additional tickets recently were released to allow more people to attend. Tickets are free.
