A group of scholars who specialize in African American literature will gather at the University of Oregon from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today (April 26) to give talks about their research.
The free symposium is open to the public and will take place in the Alumni Lounge of Gerlinger Hall, 1468 University Street.
The symposium, “Racial Representations: African American Literature since 1975,” will include a morning panel moderated by the UO's Mark Whalan and an afternoon panel moderated by the UO's Ernesto Martínez. The day will conclude with readings of poetry and creative non-fiction from authors Evie Shockley and David Bradley.
Guest presenters include Anthony Reed of Yale University, Matt Sandler of the UO, Evie Shockley of Rutgers University, Howard Rambsy of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Erica Edwards of University of California at Riverside, and David Bradley of the UO.
