University seeks referrals for national scholarships

The University of Oregon is seeking faculty referrals for outstanding undergraduates who may be qualified to compete for distinguished national scholarships.

Scholarships available include the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Churchill, Gates/Cambridge, Fulbright and Boren. Over the past three years, 109 UO students have received distinguished scholarships, thanks in part to faculty referrals.

The university is developing a list of students that President Michael Gottfredson will invite to a reception and information session on Tuesday, April 7. The gathering will be for this year’s juniors who may compete next fall for scholarships such as the Rhodes, Marshall and Mitchell, and for outstanding sophomores who may consider the Goldwater, Udall or Hollings, or begin taking steps that would lead to competitive future applications.

Faculty members are encouraged to share the request for referrals with colleagues and course faculty advisors. The names of sophomores and juniors – including student numbers and e-mail addresses – should be sent to pkegel@uoregon.edu.

More information about the Distinguished Scholarships Initiative is available online.
