Newly renovated buildings on the University of Oregon Portland campus started reopening in September, allowing employees to look inside for the first time in a year. Many marveled at the transformation of tired, dark and outdated buildings into light-filled, reimagined academic spaces.
Moving trucks picked up furniture and boxes from the White Stag Block and Naito building and shuttled everything to the university’s new campus in northeast Portland. After a year of being split between two locations, Portland-based programs and departments are together once.
Last week buzzed with excitement as UO Portland employees and students attended orientations and toured campus. Students moved into on-site apartments, and faculty and staff worked to set up labs, classrooms, offices and student spaces.
UO President Karl Scholz recognized the moment on Monday during Quack-tacular, the campus welcome reception. Employees, students and their families came together on the green in the center of campus to celebrate the milestone and the new academic year.
