The Peace Corps’ 2014 Top Colleges rankings show the University of Oregon holding steady at No. 8 on the list of the top volunteer-producing colleges and universities across the country.
For the past decade, Oregon has consistently ranked among the top 10 large schools. The university was ranked No. 10 in 2012 and moved up to No. 8 for each of the past two years.
The annual list recognizes the highest volunteer-producing colleges and universities for small, medium, large and graduate institutions.
There are currently 63 UO alumni serving overseas and the university has produced 1,194 Peace Corps volunteers since the corps’ inception.
The UO is the only large university in Oregon to rank in the top 25 and has historically had some of the highest participation rates per capita of any university larger than 15,000.
“The University of Oregon has continually and consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in the nation for producing volunteers to serve the Peace Corps mission of world peace and friendship,” said Peace Corps West Coast Regional Manager Janet Allen. “We take great pride in recognizing Oregon for its rich tradition of developing dedicated volunteers who have answered the inspirational call to serve.”
During Peace Corps service, college graduates make a 27-month commitment to communities overseas.
