Vice chancellor of the University of Ghana and delegation visit UO

The next event in the African American Workshop and Lecture Series is March 18 in Papé Hall of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

In her talk “Elevating African Knowledge Systems,” University of Ghana Vice Chancellor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo will emphasize the need for scholars on the African continent to reclaim knowledge production. She plans to discuss the significance of multilingualism and sociolinguistic theories, and the importance of creating an optimal research environment for all scholars. Ultimately, Amfo’s lecture calls for a concerted effort to elevate knowledge systems from the Global South, and the relevance of these systems in the global academic discourse.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP for the 11 a.m. lunch and 11:30 a.m. lecture.

The annual series is sponsored by the University of Oregon Division of Equity and Inclusion. The final lecture with 2024-25 Wayne Morse Chair Danielle Allen on May 8 is part of the center’s Defending Democracy theme of inquiry.
