The UO Libraries seeks input from teaching faculty and graduate teaching fellows as it reviews options for the university’s learning management system.

The UO has been a Blackboard site since 1999, and the current contract expires in March 2015. There are several alternatives on the market, both commercial and open source, that must be reviewed to determine how well they align with campus instructional needs.

Six vendors have scheduled public presentations on campus to demonstrate their products.

Girl in a Coma, THEESatisfaction and Tender Forever are among the bands on tap for OUT/LOUD, the Pacific Northwest’s largest queer women’s music festival, June 1 on Kesey Square in Eugene.

Presented by the ASUO Women’s Center, the all-ages, student-run festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. and also features Staceyann Chin, Taina Asili Y La Banda Rebelde, Dalice Malice and more.

This year's "What is ____?" conference, sponsored by the University of Oregon's Graduate Philosophy Club, tackles the often politically charged term "liberalism."

The seventh annual event, which is open to the public, will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, in the Knight Library Browsing Room.

The University of Oregon Opera Ensemble will present a program of modernized scenes. In addition, a UO dancer will collaborate with digital and visual artists for a unique performance experience at the Hult Center.

Primary documents in the UO Libraries are essential to telling the story of women’s political work in Oregon in the mid-to-late twentieth century.

And a new online finding aid provides access to them.

W. Andrew Marcus, associate dean of social sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, has been appointed acting dean of the college while Scott Coltrane serves as interim provost, Provost James Bean said recently, in a message to the university community.

“Andrew begins July 1 and will serve as long as needed,” Bean said. “I am confident that he will do a great job."

Hungarian Romani activist Angela Kocze, currently a visiting Fulbright Scholar at Wake Forest University, will be at the University of Oregon on Friday, May 24, to present “Romani (Gypsy) Women and Activism: Challenges and Opportunities,” at 4 p.m., in 204 Condon Hall.

Kocze is a research fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and an affiliated research fellow at the Central European University.

Growing up in a small Hungarian village near the border of Hungary and Ukraine, Kocze experienced first-hand the discrimination faced by Romani families.

A report of a fire at the Lillis Business Complex Tuesday afternoon, May 21, drew firefighters and police officers but was determined to be inaccurate, the University of Oregon said.

University police officers and the Eugene Fire Department responded but there was no indication of a fire, university spokesperson Phil Weiler said.

The complex includes Lillis Hall, which opened in 2003, and Peterson Hall, Anstett Hall and the Chiles Center. The complex is one of the ‘greenest’ business school facilities in the United States.

Eugene is not regularly characterized as normal, nor is the University of Oregon. But amid the tie-dyed shirts, home-brewed kombucha and unicycling commuters sits the Normal Gate.

A wrought-iron arbor situated somewhat inconspicuously in front of the Miller Theater complex, the gate has outlasted the trials of history.
