London may be the most cosmopolitan city in the world and last winter, a small group of UO students got to experience its mix of old and new by participating in the English Department’s “London Program.”

The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance will see the lion’s share of Music Today Festival events, as well as a concert by saxophonist Seamus Blake performing with the Oregon Jazz Ensemble. University of Oregon President Michael Gottfredson and UO Sustainability Affairs Graduate Fellow Andrew Louw have awarded the Biology Department the UO’s first platinum-level Green Office Certification.

The UO School of Law places an emphasis on public service work, so Professor Merle Weiner was pleased to discover recently that her “Links of Interest” page on the school's website had been referenced by a Girl Scouts troop in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The girls were using Weiner's links to prepare for the scouts' “Senior Citizens Day.” The troop volunteered at a local nursing home in their community to celebrate the day.

In the fall of 2012, a member of the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History advisory council made a challenge to the museum: a $250,000 matching gift dedicated to the PaleoIndian Endowment.

The museum has one year to raise the additional $250,000 to reap the full amount of the matching gift.

The MNCH archaeologists are leaders in PaleoIndian research and the endowment will support archaeological research, publication and field school study related to PaleoIndian populations in Oregon's Great Basin and beyond.

There are resources for faculty and staff who encounter students whose behavior is of concern, and a new guide makes that information available online.

The Faculty and Staff Guide to Assisting Students of Concern – The Guide – familiarizes faculty and staff, including student staff, with resources that are available when working with students whose behavior is of concern, and how to make an effective referral.

An avid triathlete since his days at the Lundquist College of Business, David Embree '05 is running to success in the online world of race information.

The founder and CEO of Athletepath is getting attention for developing an easy way to share race information online. The service has been called “Twitter for runners.”

Those entries and more are available in an online charity auction hosted by the School of Journalism and Communication to benefit the 2013 Governor’s Food Drive.

I taught in London during spring term 2012. Our classroom was centrally located between Holborn and King's Cross tube stations.
