Katie Lynch, co-director of the Environmental Leadership Program at the University of Oregon, has been invited to join the Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan Program Council.
The council strives to "ensure that Oregon students become lifelong stewards of their environment and community.” The council’s goals run parallel to the “No Oregon Child Left Inside Act,” a bill signed into law in 2009 that encourages students from kindergarten to college to have hands-on learning in Oregon biomes.
University of Oregon students, teachers and employees will be recognized for their achievements and efforts related to sustainability.
The UO’s inaugural Sustainability Awards Program, sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, will present six awards Thursday, May 21, at a dinner and ceremony honoring the recipients. Candidates can be nominated for the awards or can be self-nominated. The deadline for nominations is Monday, April 27.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
Rachael Cunningham, a student in the Vickie De Rose lab, will receive $50,000 over two years to help start her career.
Activities will range from speakers and documentaries to a day of service Saturday, April 25.
