A multiday discussion about sexual assault and rape prevention featuring Rashawn Ray, a professor of sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park, will take place Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, on campus.

Ray’s research focuses on the mechanisms that manufacture and maintain racial and social inequality. He designed an award-winning sexual assault program and started the community organization ManUp! His work with policymakers and activists in Indiana changed state law to remove an individual’s ability to consent when intoxicated.

The presentation, “Essential Conversations about Sexual Assault,” is from 4:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in the Knight Library Browsing Room.

Two other discussions will take place that day. “Men, Media, and the Glamorization of Physical and Sexual Violence,” is from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and “The Silent Epidemic” is from 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both are in Room 240A in McKenzie Hall.

A conversation with community members, “Building Healthy Relationships and Bystander Intervention,” is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in Room 176 Lokey Education Building.
