The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will present a free showing of the animated film adaptation of Gabrielle Vincent’s Belgian book series “Ernest & Celestine” as part of its Outdoor Family Film Series.
The screening will take place on the UO Memorial Quad on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 8:30 p.m.
The movie presents a world where bears inhabit cities and mice live beneath the streets, and the two societies exist as complete opposites. Despite the status quo, an orphaned mouse named Celestine and a bumbling bear named Ernest form an unlikely friendship that is constantly put to the test by their furious communities.
Vincent’s creatures are brought to life by award-winning directors Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar and Benjamin Renner. The cast of voices includes the actors Forest Whitaker, William H. Macy, Mackenzie Foy and Paul Giamatti.
“Ernest and Celestine” was nominated for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Academy Awards and earned France’s César Award for Best Animated Feature.
