Following a successful pilot last spring, the ASUO Party Registration Program is underway for fall term with the support of the Division of Student Life.

The party program — developed by the Associated Students of the University of Oregon, UO Police Department and the Division of Student Life — aims to reduce noise and community disturbances in neighborhoods near the University of Oregon’s Eugene campus. Hosts in neighborhoods west and south of the UO can register an upcoming party, and their residential address and contact information is sent to the Eugene Police Department dispatch center.

If a noise complaint is called in, EPD dispatch notifies the party host with a 20-minute warning. If a second call is received, the UOPD is responsible for responding.

According to UOPD, the spring pilot was well received and no parties that registered were visited by their officers or EPD for noise complaints. When called and asked to quiet down, they did.

“The program went well last spring and was a fantastic example of a collaboration between ASUO, campus colleagues and the Eugene community,” said Kris Winter, interim vice president for student life. “Working together to promote a healthier community for everyone is a positive direction to move in. I hope it continues to be successful.”

To register a party, hosts must first attend party registration orientation. One session was held at the beginning of fall term, and a second orientation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Maple Room in the Erb Memorial Union. Attendees must RSVP to attend the orientation.
