Nominations are now open for two major awards programs, the UO Outstanding Research Awards and the UO Sustainability Awards.
Together, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, the Office of the Provost, and the Graduate School annually host and sponsor the UO Outstanding Teaching, Research, and Mentorship Awards.
The research awards celebrate the significant achievement of UO faculty members engaged in research and scholarly activity. The award categories are:
- Outstanding Career Award: To be awarded to a tenured faculty at the associate or full professor rank.
- Early Career Award: To be awarded to a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor rank.
- Outstanding Accomplishment Award Researcher: To be awarded to a career non-tenure-track faculty member engaged in research.
- Innovation and Impact Award: To be awarded to an individual or team for outstanding entrepreneurial and/or broader public engagement activity, including communication, policy or outreach.
Awardees receive commendation from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, including $1,000 in research support, or $2,500 for a team, a recognition memento and highlighting of their work.
The awards are open to the UO campus for nominations and self-nominations. Nomination letters should be no more than one page in length, unique to each nominee, and must detail the research impact on the field and the significance of the individual’s research over the past several years. Where applicable, attention should be given to describing how the research portfolio has a broad impact on the discipline and beyond.
This year, organizers issued the following special advisory for nominators:
“Please consider that this past year, faculty across all disciplines experienced incredible disruptions to research activities due to COVID-19. We encourage you to look at impact over the past several years in evaluating/selecting individuals for nomination.”
Nominations or self-nominations are due no later than Friday, April 23, for full consideration and should be submitted via the Outstanding Research Awards nomination form.

UO Sustainability Awards
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation is seeking nominations for individuals or research teams for the 2021 Sustainability Awards. This award program recognizes individuals whose contributions deepen the culture of sustainability across a range of institutional activities.
The office sponsors two Sustainability Awards, one for research and scholarship, and one for innovation and impact. Award recipients will receive $500 in research funds, or $1,000 for a team, and also will be featured in a video produced by the Office of Sustainability.
The nomination should contain a one-paragraph description of the nominee’s contributions to sustainability in research and scholarship or innovation and impact, along with the nominee’s curriculum vitae. If nominating a research team, please include CVs for all faculty team members. Preference is given to interdisciplinary environmental projects for the research and scholarship award.
Nominations are due no later than Tuesday, March 3, for full consideration and should be submitted via the UO Sustainability Awards nomination form
