Quiet period and paid floating holiday announced for 2026-27

The University of Oregon will observe a quiet period from Dec. 25, 2026 through Jan. 1, 2027. And eligible employees will again receive a floating holiday for to use in 2026-27.

Quiet period

The quiet period is a time for UO employees to relax and recharge or to catch up on projects. Units are encouraged to reduce operations as much as possible, and supervisors should support employees in using their paid time off as operations allow. During the quiet period, everyone should try to limit creating new work and hold off on emails, messages, and calls.

If you will be working during the quiet period, consider scheduling any non-urgent emails or Teams messages to send after Jan. 1. This helps colleagues who are not working to disconnect and allows those who are working to focus without as many interruptions.

If the quiet period isn’t possible in your unit or department, talk with your supervisor about scheduling time off at a time of year that works better for your team.

Floating holiday

The floating holiday gives eligible employees the flexibility to take a day off that aligns with a cultural or religious observance or any personal value or tradition. It can be used any time between Dec. 1, 2026, and Nov. 30, 2027 with approval from your supervisor.
