Faculty, staff and unit heads interested in learning more about advancing their careers, supporting achievement or managing finances still have plenty of time to sign up for winter term workshops.
The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs partners with offices around campus to offer workshops and training opportunities for unit heads, faculty and staff. Winter term workshops provide training on topics such as promotion, tenure, evaluation, institutional finances and personnel actions.

Feb. 9 — CoDaC Winter Quarter Luncheon Workshop on Teaching Evaluations
EMU 145-Crater Lake South, 11:30-1 p.m.
Student, peer and self-evaluations are influential components in determining faculty teaching effectiveness. In this workshop, participants will consider: the role of each teaching evaluation component in faculty reviews, potential sources of bias in teaching evaluations and how to assess contributions to equity and inclusion in faculty teaching

Feb. 14 — Promotion & Tenure for Candidates who will Undergo Review

This workshop will address promotion and tenure matters for tenure-track faculty who will undergo review during the 2017-18 academic year. Aimed at both tenure cases and promotions to full professor, this session focuses on the promotion and tenure process, the timing of the efforts required and the respective roles of the department, the department head and the candidate
Feb. 21 — Unit Heads Training - Q&A with the Business Bunch
EMU 230-Swindells Room, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Bring questions about budget, HR, audit, payroll, travel, internal controls, contracts and any other issues. Organizers will do their best to provide unit heads with answers to questions and information about campus resources.
Feb. 23 — Preparing the TTF and NTTF Promotion & Tenure File for Unit Heads, Office Managers and Staff
EMU 231/232-Cedar and Spruce rooms, noon-2 p.m.
This workshop provides information to unit heads, office managers and key support staff involved in the assembly of promotion and tenure files. Participants will discuss the general process, timelines and guidelines surrounding the preparation of a file and the digital preparation and submission of dossiers. In addition, the workshop will review the timing of full professor cases, interpreting credit for prior service, solicitation of external reviewers, peer review of teaching and other topics critical to the assembly and submission of complete files.
March 9 — Unit Heads Training - Mid-Term/Third-year Pre-tenure Review
EMU 231/232-Cedar and Spruce rooms, noon-2 p.m.
This workshop is intended for unit heads involved in the professional evaluation of faculty for third-year, pre-tenure reviews. The third-year review of pre-tenure faculty represents a key step on the tenure track, providing an in-depth analysis and valuable feedback to the faculty member regarding progress toward tenure. This is a critical juncture because contract renewal at the third year is not automatic; the major criterion behind the decision to renew a contract is evidence of significant progress towards establishing a record appropriate for tenure.
March 16 — Unit Heads Training – Nuts and Bolts of Departmental Personnel Actions
EMU 145-Crater Lake South, noon-2 p.m.
Unit heads are invited to a workshop on departmental personnel actions with representatives from Human Resources, Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Research and Innovation. Topics will include: tentative critical deadlines, faculty appointments – department role, managing career vs. pro tem, OA appointments, multiple/joint appointments, exempt vs. non-exempt and separations. The session will also address specific topics of performance management as related to TTF, instructional NTTF and research NTTF.
